Bowen Technique

Intro to Bowen

The Incredible Physical Technique!

Bowen is a structural treatment for pain and musculoskeletal imbalances. It allows the body to reset itself to a blue print of proper health through a series of non-invasive gentle movements on muscle along the spine and specific points throughout the body.

In a Bowen session, the patient lies on a bed, wearing a gown or loosely fitting clothing, and relaxes while the therapist applies a carefully orchestrated and specifically located series of gentle movements across the body. The movements are composed of a subtle rolling of muscle, tendon insertion or connective tissue. The carefully designed pattern of movements is central to Bowen achieving its holistic benefits, which result in a balancing not only on the structural level, but also at the level of the individual's overall well-being.

Bowen's unique system produces rapid and lasting pain-relief that amazes practitioners of all disciplines. There are variations and combinations of moves for each section of the body. It is similar to homeopathy in that it stimulates the body to heal itself with a minimal amount of intervention involved in the healing process. Additionally, Bowen relaxes the body and then sets up a stimulus that encourages this self-healing action. Bowen produces an integrated body response that improves circulation, lymphatic and venous drainage, helping assimilate nutrients and eliminate toxins. The patient does not have to be unwell to benefit from Bowen. It is an ideal therapy to help the body function at an optimal level of health and efficiency. It has been used for over 50 years to successfully treat thousands of people suffering from a multitude of maladies. Bowen therapists strongly adhere to a professional code of ethics.

A session may last about 60-90 minutes. Most often, a surprisingly few sessions are needed to alleviate complaints, even if long-standing. The average number of sessions one may require vary from 5-10.

Bowtech is completely safe and appropriate for everyone from newborns to the very elderly and frail. Highly trained athletes and pregnant women benefit equally, each according to need.

There are a number of women who may have musculoskeletal imbalances before and/or after giving birth. The Bowen technique is indicated at this time to help realign the pelvic and tailbone areas, which can lead to chronic pain and hormonal imbalances.

Bowen Therapy can be described with many names such as Bowtech, Bowenwork, Original Bowen Technique. Anna Bunda, ND has been trained in Bowenwork (Bowtech) from the original Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia in all levels including the highest, the Specialized Procedures Level 2.
